“Joy Cometh in the Morning”

By Jennifer Jones

I had quite an inspired moment one morning recently. The October 3-9 Bible lesson featured a portion of Psalm 30. I was inspired to open my Bible and read the entire Psalm and was delighted with this familiar phrase “… weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

I felt suddenly plunged into an ocean of gratitude and joy. The sun shone through the lace curtains, my Christian Science reading material surrounded me, my morning tea was comforting, and all was well. I thought about all my blessings, all my loving friends, my happy and blessed way of life, and was overcome with joy.

Verse 2 of Psalm 30 reads “O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.” That inspired me to reflect on my healing of pneumonia this past summer. After nearly three weeks in the hospital, it felt like a mountain of love destroyed a wall of fear and mortal medical opinions, and restored my breathing. The powerful work of a loving Christian Science practitioner ensured my release.

After a sweet 2 1/2 week rehab at the home of a loving Christian Science friend, I was able to manage the staircase and return home. Now back to my usual activities, including playing the ukulele, it is delightful to play and sing favorite hymns.

So grateful, I find myself inspired to expand my Christian Science reading, study and prayer, and to learn and play more hymns.   Joy DOES cometh in the morning (and at other times too)! ♥️

If the salt has lost its savour

“If the salt have lost its savour” – By Roya

It is recorded in the Bible that Jesus tells us we are the salt of the earth, and adds, “but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men” (Matthew 5:13). I got a new sense of that passage today while reading the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew’s gospel.

I had always read that passage as advising us not to lost our saltness — our spiritual sense. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be doing much good with our days. I was curious, though — how could salt lose its saltness? Well, one online source brought out the fact that pure salt — sodium chloride — cannot lose any of its flavor. Well, of course! From that basis, the passage takes a different tone. Salt can’t lose its savour! And neither can we. We are worthy and productive and can never lose our divine nature.

The original sense I saw of keeping aligned with spiritual sense is definitely useful, but I also enjoyed thinking of the absolute fact that we are salty salt, just as we are “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). We don’t lose our light — the city shines on and on through day and night.

I recently had a conversation that went in the direction of mourning. I was enjoying mentally sticking to the truth of the goodness of Life as this conversation continued, but later I felt a mental cloud overhead. After I gleaned this new revelation about our saltness, I realized that I was still taking these friends at their word to a certain extent — believing that they had lost some of their saltness as they worked through grief. Well, the Christ certainly corrected this thought! Now I understand better than ever the importance of keeping my thought clear about the individuals around me, as much as I do for myself. If our saltness is the fact of our being, there is nothing keeping me from seeing this truth manifested absolutely everywhere.

“Stick to the truth of being in contradistinction to the error that life, substance, or intelligence can be in matter” (SH 418:5–6).

Healing During Association

Healing During Association

From Jennifer ♥️

There had been a problem with my ear for several weeks prior to attending Pam‘s Association recently. My ear was blocked and I could not hear out of it! Although it was annoying, it was not debilitating, and I had not focused on it to any large degree.

During Association, our dear teacher, Pam, lovingly told us many times, and in divers ways, that GOD IS ALL. She even noted that God is our individual consciousness, and that because of that, a whole host of things are true. For example, we already love our neighbor, we’re already good, and we already have abundant health!

As I caught glimpses of the fact that God really is ALL, and is my individual consciousness, a powerful idea came to mind—with that being true, that means I already have spiritual understanding! I had often, while reading Science and Health, strongly desired more spiritual understanding and tried to take steps in that direction. So it was a wonderful revelation to realize that I already had it!

I reviewed my notes and reveled in the spiritual abundance and elevated consciousness for the remainder of the weekend.

Monday morning I started reading the new edition of the Christian Science Sentinel and turned immediately to an article entitled “Healing of Blocked Hearing”.  In it, the author noted the following: “Science and Health provides a spiritual definition of ears as ‘not organs of the so-called corporeal senses, but spiritual understanding’ (p. 585 ). I also affirmed that as an idea of God, I was not lacking in spiritual understanding.”

Finishing the article I sat quietly for a moment. I then realized that my ear was no longer blocked and that my hearing was perfectly normal. Although I had been aware of the definition of “ears“ in the glossary, I had not yet put two and two together from the weekend. But the extraordinary fact is that once I recognized that I already possessed spiritual understanding – the definition of “ears” – during the weekend, the healing was complete.

I am very grateful to Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, and Pamela for her wisdom, patience and perseverance in helping us see the Truth.

We would love to hear from you! Send healings, tidbits and stories to me at jennife574@aol.com. ♥️

Prayer Heals Painful Leg

From Sharon Anderson 🌷

Recently, one night I woke up to pain in my leg that was so extreme and lasted all night that I became fearful. In fact so much so that I couldn’t even think of one simple spiritual truth.

When I got up the next morning, I still had pain and when I walked, my leg would collapse. I dug into the lesson and kept with it all day. That night when I went to bed and was saying my prayers, I was thinking about the definition of God as given in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, page 587, where she states, “God. The Great I Am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence.” When I came to God as all-acting, I stopped and gave myself a Christian Science treatment. I reasoned that if God is all-acting and I’m God’s reflection, I too am all-acting. Nothing could stop that action.

The next day I was in tears because of the discomfort and I thought I would have to use crutches and to just give up on a healing; that my leg was never going to be better and I would have to live with the pain. As soon as that thought came, another thought appeared, saying “And then what?” Immediately, I said out loud with conviction, “I will never give up on having a complete healing.” (And I never did get crutches.) I studied the Bible Lesson and kept in my thought of God’s all-action.

Then the next day the idea came to me to look up all the hymns with the word “walk” in them. I not only looked them up, I sang them all.

The following day I had 4 contacts with people and although none of them knew of my struggle, they expressed so much love to me. During one conversation, one of the people mentioned the book, “Healing Spiritually.” I haven’t read that book for several years so I took it to bed with me that night and read for a couple of hours.

That night I was so embraced in God’s pure love to those 4 people (the love both directed to me and radiating from me), I completely forgot about my leg. I believe the healing occurred at that moment. However, it wasn’t until the next morning that I realized I had experienced a complete healing. No more pain, no limping, only strength was evident. I felt so much happiness and joy. And I give love and gratitude to God, my Father-Mother for this healing.

What do the Synonyms have to do with the Election?

From Duffy

What do the synonyms have to do with the election?

The true nature (character, thinking, essence, substance, quality) of each individual spring from God. There is no distraction, no separation, no drama that can take us away from our Father mother God.

Spirit: Our heart, character, courage originates in God, Love. That Love, Principle is the fullness of our consciousness.

Love: Our intelligence is rooted in Love. Our existence entrenched in Love. Our individuality is based in and originated from the one and only source of that Love, God.

Principle: The fundamental foundation of man is Love. The caring and cherishing action of God, which brings stability, is based in Spirit and is not the result of money, fame, education. Harmony is God’s testimony and demonstration in our lives.

Soul: God is our commander, nurturing each detail. He is unchanging sacred harmony, integration and unification. Man reflects these details and harmony.

Mind: Our intelligence and acumen being based in one Mind produces one family. There is one cause, one reality, one universal family without division or conflict.

Truth: Truth shatters wrong or evil atmospheres, overcoming anything ungodlike. Truth illuminates the real and dispels transgression.

Life: God is the vitality of this country giving each of us ebullience and strength. Our expression of life is shown through devotion, respect, integrity of our thought and actions.

The Space is Not Empty

The space is NOT empty

It is already filled with Peace and Harmony

God fills all space

There is so much turbulence expressed in world events, error having itself received as real(to paraphrase MBE S&H 555). It feels as if mortal mind sees peace and harmony and thinks that there is an empty space to be filled by division and conflict.  But that space is NOT empty!!!! It cannot be made into a space for disunity because it is already filled with the Oneness of Mind, the completely good Father Mother, God.

Jesus knew this.  Think of the Lord’s Prayer.  “Our Father which art in heaven,
OUR Father, the Father Mother of ALL of us, cannot be divided or the source of division. And Heaven is the abode of God. MBE defines heaven as,Harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by divine Principle; spirituality; bliss; the atmosphere of Soul.
(p. 587:25) This home, where God lives and works, is our home too.  As children of God we never go off on our ownor leave home. Heaven includes no room for conflict, no spare bedroom set aside for war, closet of fear or stairway of doubt.

Jesus told us to know facts about God such as,  Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. …(also, from the Lords Prayer.) Again, there is no space set aside for something that is not Gods will or not the creation of infinite goodness. We can judge if something is Gods will by contemplating as in heaven. Does whatever wants our attention fit into heaven, harmony?

God will help us know what to believe, to know what is true, good and will make the earth flourish. The Lords Prayer humbly ask God to,
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom,
(Matthew 6:9 Our (to ,), 10 2nd Thy, 13 (to 2nd ,))

It is Gods kingdom and God fills it up full with peace, love and harmony. Evil is not real. God didnt leave room in Her creation for anything but goodness.

If the conflict, division and hate that seem to be trying to make room for themselves someplace around us, are not real, what is real?  What is going on? What DO we see?  We see the evidence of the sustaining power of Truth. That which is real is sustained by Spirit.(S&H 556:1) God loves us all, and we can gratefully witness that love in undisturbed peace and harmony that is God sustained. No empty unused space in Gods kingdom, our home.

Evidence of Good

Thanks, Pam. While being on lock down, I have been doing some thing that I hope will do some good for others in our community. I have been making toy trucks, of wood, of course. My plan is to sell them at car events and give all of the money to the food bank. I have done this before with some of my things and It has worked out very well. As Jerry would say, Thanks for all you do

Starting My List of Good

I always overthink this stuff…..not this time. If it’s good, it’s going on my list. Maybe we could have a Community list of good on the blam. We could all add to it. I’m starting with the image attached. Next to me each night when we settle in, and at the foot of my bed is Love expressed in loyalty, companionship, and endless patience.

Thanks for this awesome assignment. Ready, set…

Love,

Good Tidings and Treasures

From Pam

Hi all,

As we are separated physically but united spiritually and mentally, let’s join in rejoicing over our times of healing for ourselves and of our world.

It’s been suggested that we use this Blam as a journal for responding to our Association topic “The Inevitability Of Good”, by listing here every evidence each of us are seeing of good, the good that comes from God, the good that heals, the good that unites us, the good that will bring healing to our world.

Let’s start out with some wonderful healing observations by dear Duffy. Then join in!

What is the good you are seeing, experiencing, recognizing as ever-present, ever available, and everywhere present?

Join the party of Good!

With love as ever, Pam ♥️

The “great white throne”

The “great white throne”
Elizabeth Earl Jones, From the October 16, 1943 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel

In his letters to Timothy, the Apostle Paul exhorted the followers of Christ to pray for “all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

Mary Baker Eddy also exhorted her church (Christian Science versus Pantheism, p. 14): “Pray for the prosperity of our country, and for her victory under arms; that justice, mercy, and peace continue to characterize her government, and that they shall rule all nations. Pray that the divine presence may still guide and bless our chief magistrate, those associated with his executive trust, and our national judiciary; give to our congress wisdom, and uphold our nation with the right arm of His righteousness.” In this same message, Mrs. Eddy included a prayer and blessing for the brave men in our country’s armed forces.

Obedient Christian Scientists have prayed thus for many years, and have learned that righteous prayer not only achieves victory and blessings, but purifies the thought of the one who prays, freeing it from destructive criticism and resentful thinking. It also opens one’s eyes to opportunities for service that otherwise might not have been seen.

The following incident, which occurred some years ago, will serve to illustrate this point. The then President of the United States had accepted an invitation to deliver the address at the unveiling of a monument on one of the battlefields of the American Revolution. A few days before the event, a federal agent discovered a plot to assassinate the President as soon as he should rise on the platform to address those present. The agent hastened back to Washington with his report, but he stopped off between trains to seek out two Christian Science practitioners who resided in that state. He asked these practitioners to pray for the President’s safety, which they most gladly agreed to do. For some years they had daily prayed as our Leader had requested in her message, but this was a call for special prayer.

The proper authorities took the human steps necessary to ensure against trouble, and all went well.

During the four hours that the President was in their state, the two practitioners devoted the entire time to prayer. While they were praying a strange thing happened: they both became almost overwhelmed by a sense of crushing burden, so heavy and cruel that it seemed as if no human being could endure it.

Said one to the other, “Can it be that this is the load our Presidents have to bear?” Then they both prayed to lift that load. These words from Isaiah came to them: “Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?”

A new light dawned for them upon the vision of St. John, where the Revelator tells of “a great white throne” in heaven, and of the One who sat upon it. These two practitioners saw and understood, as never before, the absolute supremacy of God’s government and the oneness and allness of the divine Mind. They saw clearly that there are not thrones many—just one; also, that there are not rulers many—only One. In the same reality of being there are not minds many, hating and being hated, hypnotizing and being hypnotized, because the one divine Mind includes and governs all. This one Mind is the essence of intelligence and wisdom; therefore these divine qualities are forever reflected by man in the likeness of his Maker.

Man has no power, intelligence, or wisdom underived from God, but this one inexhaustible divine supply is his without limit, because man is the very expression and emanation of the source of all good. Moreover, they awakened to the idolatry of seeing person in the place of divine Principle. All authority is in God. To think otherwise is to think destructively instead of constructively concerning our government.

They saw that the responsibility of government and supply is with God, not man, and that man’s part in government is the joyous, obedient reflecting of the one divine Mind. As these two practitioners prayed in this way, the sense of burden began to lift until nothing was left of it, and in place thereof was a great consciousness of freedom, of absolute safety, peace, and harmony.

Two days later they found in the morning newspaper the account of an interview given to the press by the President’s secretary. The secretary told of how the President had enjoyed his time away, and had returned in excellent health and spirits, and he closed with these words: “The President says that while on this trip he felt the lifting of a crushing mental load which descended upon him when he took the oath of office, and from which he had experienced no relief until now.” It is not difficult to imagine the overflowing gratitude to God, and the humility and joy with which those Christian Scientists read of that interview; nor is it difficult to understand that this was a lesson never to be forgotten.

Every true Christian knows that there is a forever “firmament,” or firm, uncompromising line of separation between good and evil. Right is right, and wrong is wrong. Moral values must be kept straight and clear until all belief in a power apart from God, good, is wiped out by divine Science. But we must observe the Christ-rule in the destruction of evil. This rule scientifically impersonalizes evil, and then destroys it. This action of the Christ-consciousness heals and saves. Cruel and destructive action is not Science, is not the Christ-way, and does not proceed from God.

The Christ Science that uncovers error as impersonal and unreal destroys it. If we personalize error, we give it, in belief, an agent with which to strike back. The whole world has now learned a lesson in the awful error of appeasement. We have tasted and now know the deadly nature of the mental narcotic of apathy, and we want no more of it; but our testing times are not yet over, and we cannot afford to lessen our watch and our prayers. The sword of the righteous can halt the sword of aggression, but it cannot destroy the wicked motives back of aggressive warfare—only the Christ, Truth, can do that.

The signing of peace terms after this global war is ended may be the preface to a period in which varying views of government, both occult and visible, may strive to control the formation of the new world order, but we need have no fear of the outcome. Power is an attribute of God, good, not of evil, and we can foresee and forestall the claims of evil.

The model for a true and universal democracy has already been revealed by divine Love. On pages 246 and 247 of “The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany” Mrs. Eddy writes: “The Magna Charta of Christian Science means much, multum in parvo,—all-in-one and one-in-all. It stands for the inalienable, universal rights of men. Essentially democratic, its government is administered by the common consent of the governed, wherein and whereby man governed by his creator is self-governed. The church is the mouthpiece of Christian Science,—its law and gospel are according to Christ Jesus; its rules are health, holiness, and immortality,—equal rights and privileges, equality of the sexes, rotation in office.” In this great charter Mrs. Eddy shows the church in its correct relationship to government. “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.”

As the thunders of the dictators die away into oblivion, the spiritual leadership of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, will shine as the sun pointing the way—the only way—through individual understanding and demonstration of the teachings of Christ Jesus. The revelation of this great Leader, and holy messenger of God, gives the kingdom and the power and the glory back to God.
