Two Poems

By Kit 🌹

These two poems are a couple of my morning moments. This morning was the lovely thought that God will keep telling me the lovely truths of her nature, and it is not as if She tells me until “I get it”. She tells me a truth and I get it, but then She tells me again and I get it even better.  😘

God’s Dictionary

Open the book
     and read
          God’s dictionary.

Look!
     There you are!
     Just as Love
          wrote you down.

Read out loud what She says.

“Perfect child,
     acting only as My reflection.
Amazing, Exceptional, Wonderful
     expression of Me, Truth.
Crystalized by Principle,
     My law,
          into unique dynamic form,
Soul inspired.
Always intelligent as I, infinite Mind, am,
     the source of all
and knowing all.
That whom I cherish.
That whom I bless.
Hidden under My, Love’s, wings,
     and shining bright
          in My infinity.”

God’s Voice

God gently tells me,

“I love you.
I have always loved you for I created you
my beautiful child.
You are made of the stuff of Love and Life.
You are wonderful
because I am wonderful.
And I sent and am sending
my tender loving healing Christ to you
and all.
Jesus told you.
It is all explained.
You have heard me.

I will tell you again
and you will hear me again but it will seem new.
And I will tell you again
and it will seem fresh.
And I will tell you again
and the light of Truth will shine in your thought.
And I will tell you again
and It will be glorious.
And
I will tell you again.

I am Love.”

What Does Love, Lived, Do?

From Jennifer 🌹

I have been working with some of the wise and remarkable concepts found in Living Love, Learning of Universal Harmony! by Pam DeBolt.

Here are two short paragraphs I have been using to keep me on track:  (shared with Pam’s permission).

What does Love, lived, do?

Living Love as purely as we are able, our views of life will change. Seeing as God sees, knowing what God knows, we focus more clearly on the right. We discern appropriate prayerful responses and  solutions to apparent wrongs.

Loving as God loves, we live kindness, grace, and compassion. Beholding the real where the unreal might appear, we will expect to find harmony.

Why Christian Science? – Association 2019

By Dyan Wingard, CS ♥️

This year’s Association assignment has enabled me to look at the foundation of my life as a Christian Scientist. The weekly study of the platform, in Science & Health, pages 330-340 has enabled a deeper exploration and dedication to the Principle and practice of Christian Science. Like our great Master, we have a spiritual agreement with God. “He expressed the highest type of divinity,…Thus it is that Christ illustrates the coincidence, or spiritual agreement, between God and man in His image.” S&H 332:29-2

Why Christian Science? This a question that I posed to my mother when I was a very small child. I love the answer she shared with me: “because it provides an open connection to God for you to know everything you ever wanted to know about Life.”

That moment became the starting point for my own personal journey in establishing my “open connection” with God. I have always loved getting quiet and listening to messages from God. As a young child, I would talk with God just like I was talking to another person. I easily recognized God’s voice and His Love for me. I knew and continue to know that my connection to God is always present (anytime and anywhere). Truth is always louder, clearer, and more mighty than any false material suggestion. There is nothing more important to me than what God knows and reveals to me as His eternal divine nature.

Christian Science has provided the path for me to grow spiritually through a deepened and pure understanding of the Christ. Growing up in the Christian Science Sunday School, I remember being drawn to a large portrait of Daniel in the Lion’s Den in the youngest Sunday School class, where Daniel stood looking out the window with the light illumining all around him and the lions are laying calmly behind him in the den. What did it take for Daniel to get to the point where he could trust God completely in the face of such great danger? Could I ever reach this level of spiritual demonstration in my own life? Prayer and fasting. That was the command that we were given by Jesus. Prayer in acknowledgment of our perfection as the natural and pure expression of the Christ Science and fasting by watching what we are taking in and holding in consciousness as the reality of true spiritual being.

God, our divine Comforter, became my personal Comforter when I was about 10 years old. At the time, my knee would give out sporadically and without warning. My mom took me to the doctor to have my knee examined and the X-ray came back showing that I had water on the knee. The doctor said that they could remove the excess fluid by draining it with a needle—but the fluid would eventually build back up. He said that it would be an ongoing process—and could only be managed through taking pills. This did not sit well with me at all. I was not going to let a material matter-based knee be in control of my movement or lack thereof. So, I did what I had always been taught to do by my mom and in Sunday School—I prayed. I prayed to God every day asking him to give me the same courage that he gave Daniel to face down the lions in the lion den. I prayed knowing that I was upheld by God’s love and that he was holding me firmly in His arms as his beloved daughter.

One day, after experiencing a lot of discomfort in my knee, I sat in my room and poured my heart out to God. I reminded God that he promised to protect and guide me and to keep me safe in every situation. Wasn’t I worthy of the same love and compassion that he showed Daniel? What happened next…I felt divinely inspired to walk across the room. I was afraid of falling down again—so I hesitated. But, the thought came again—“get up, and walk across the room.” I knew this was God speaking to me through my prayer—so I was obedient and started to walk across the room. It felt like someone was carrying me across the room. There was no pain or discomfort. That false picture had no choice but to give way to the clearer understanding that I now had of myself. My connection to God was intact and so was everything else about me. I was completely healed! I ran to tell my mom and she was so happy to celebrate this healing with me.

This is why Christian Science.

Prayerful Work

From Mali 🌸

I am just loving Pam’s assignment for this year and would like to thank her for the time, prayer, and thoughtful consideration I know she put into the selections.

One morning last week I reread Cause and Effect and got such a fresh, clear understanding of what Christian Science is. Later that evening I was at a community meeting and ran into a friend who had expressed an interest is CS. When she asked me what I had been doing that day I told her I had been doing some prayerful work for my dog who had a little mishap the day before. She wanted to know what “prayerful work” meant. I was able to give her a simple and concise explanation of what Christian Science is and does and how I was putting it to work in my life for my dog.

In the past I have been rather hesitant about explaining CS, but on this day I felt confident and grateful to be able to speak with some authority.

Universal Harmony

From Duffy 🌸

In thinking about what UNIVERSAL HARMONY means these two words are becoming more powerful!

UNIVERSAL: Worldwide, entire, broad, common, comprehensive, extensive, global, prevalent, ubiquitous, unlimited, whole, all-embracing, all-inclusive, ecumenical, widespread, unrestricted

HARMONY: conformity, cooperation, friendship, good will, kinship, peace, tranquility, understanding, unity, affinity, amicability, compatibility, empathy, accord

Worldwide cooperation
Comprehensive good will
Extensive kinship
Unlimited tranquility
Ubiquitous affinity
All-embracing understanding
All-inclusive peace
Widespread friendship
Unrestricted compatibility
Global unity
Prevalent amicability
Ecumenical empathy
Broad accord

Imagine! If all people lived these, every day, what the world would look like. Am I willing to express these powerful qualities on a daily basis? Express them in all that I do and how I move through the world – moment by moment. In doing so I express God to the nth degree, constantly devoting myself to Love.

Are You Willing and Prepared?

From Cindy 🌷

Thank you, Pam, for such an inspiring letter.

Expectation of good, of seeing God’s harmony everywhere in action is steady prayer. And, I propose we use this forum to tackle the questions Pam has proposed. Maybe we talk about one question per week?

I’ll start with the first question: “Are you prepared and willing to recognize universal harmony?” At first glance, I thought, “Sure, of course, why not?” God is all, and all good. Theoretically, I was totally onboard with being prepared and willing. Then, my horse stopped eating and wasn’t feeling well. For a while I was caught up in trying to get her to eat, walking her, and other things. Then, the thought came, “Am I willing to expect good?” And, “Am I listening to our Leader, caring more for what God knows and provides than to continually fear what we have been told to fear?”

Those thoughts stopped me in my tracks, and I recognized the need to trust God as the source of my horse’s being. I stopped watching for material signs of normalcy, and left for home, trusting and expecting good. The expectancy of good took away the hypnotic watching of matter and freed my horse to eat and feel better. The next morning I received the cheery report that she was doing well.

That expectancy of good opened my thought to listen for God’s voice and prepared me for what was next.

Several times the thought came that I should go to the Toyota dealership. I kept shoving the thought aside until I recognized it as God’s voice. I went to have my snow tires removed, or so I thought. When the mechanics started looking at the car for the point inspection, they found that my rather low mileage car had a serious head gasket leak, which could have resulted in a dangerous problem on the road.

While grateful for the protection, I wasn’t too happy with the cost and inconvenience, but then…what was I expecting? The expectation thought drifted through my thinking, and just as it had, the general manager of the dealership introduced himself and stated he was sorry for the seldom heard of head gasket issue, and wanted to help me in any way he could. He said he would work with me to get it repaired if that was my wish, or offered me a new car at cost from his fleet with a very low interest rate.

Was I willing and prepared to recognize this harmony? I went to a quiet place to listen, and it seemed right to accept the offer for the new car. The whole transaction was gently shepherded and I felt such sense of the blessing of God in every facet of our lives.

I also found out just as this transaction was beginning that my daughter, who was driving from Sacramento over Echo Summit to South Lake Tahoe, had been a few cars behind several that had been caught in an avalanche. She was protected and those in the avalanche came out unscathed.

So grateful for this letter and all the lessons it is bringing!!

Universal Harmony 🎼

By Mary Ann

Thank you for that lovely letter and this year’s focus.

I spent some time this morning thinking about universal harmony, I admit, along more simple lines. I stuck with it when I suddenly remembered Strybing Arboretum in San Francisco (sorry, it’s now the Botanical Gardens). I went there as a little girl with my grandparents and later, while studying horticulture visited there, often with a professor.

Strybing has plants from all over the world, sometimes in special settings like the moon garden (all white blossoms and silvery leaves) or in geographical settings. It all works together in harmony, maintained by dedicated gardeners and volunteers.

Nearby, at the Academy of Sciences, there is also a seed library, dedicated to preserving all plant life. This seemed a wonderful paradigm for universal harmony–thought, open-mindedness, dedication, study, observation and appreciation of beauty and diversity that people with a common goal created over generations.

Cool topic!

Home, Healing and Harmony

By Kit 🏡♥️

The Psalmist assures us, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” No discord can touch us,“ …. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
(Ps. 91:1, 2, 9) This prayer places us in God’s hands, God’s home.

I have found that praying consistently for home has brought healing and harmony to our lives. A few years ago a friend was visiting for a couple of weeks. On a previous visit he had left early because he felt the atmosphere of the house made him ill. For this visit, we did special cleaning to accommodate his perceived needs, but I knew that our home was innately pure because the love, peace, joy and health expressed in it were qualities communicated from God. God establishes the idea of home and everyone that enters it is under God’s loving government.

On the first evening the guest told us that he was feeling ill. He is not a Christian Scientist and did not ask for us to pray for him so I continued my prayer for home. I knew that the prayerful work acknowledging the location of our home in God’s kingdom was done. In actuality, we always resided in God’s domain and we just acknowledged that truth. I knew that peace and health were an inalterable fact. Truth, God, cannot have even a tiny bit of inharmony in it. Our home was a healing place. In the morning our guest was perfectly well and continued to express health for the rest of the visit.

This was a lesson for me. I learned to consistently establish a spiritual concept of home in my thought. Mary Baker Eddy says in her work Miscellany (127:7-11), “One thing I have greatly desired, and again earnestly request, namely, that Christian Scientists, here and elsewhere, pray daily for themselves: not verbally, nor on bended knee, but mentally, meekly, and importunately.” I include home in these daily prayers for myself.

We are also told in I Thessalonians (5:17) “Pray without ceasing.” With this in mind, whenever my thought rests on my home, I see it in its spiritual light. This could be an affirmation of Peter’s statement, “For in him we live, and move, and have our being;”(Acts 17:28). Or to restate, home, a concept of God’s thought, is never outside God’s awareness thus harmony and joy are always present.

One of my recent prayers about home went like this. –In my home, an aspect of God’s house, all is in order. Every “tool in the kitchen”, every creative thought, is placed exactly where it needs to be for harmonious establishment of joy, activity and nutritious being (being fed by God ideas). Comfort and peace are present without searching for them. Health is the law here and Principle guards the gates. No hint that man could ever be anything less than the perfect expression of the perfect Mind is allowed in. This is God’s home of Her design and arrangement. Its use is secured in Soul’s domain.

Rest, regeneration, growth, grace and the understanding of pure spiritual being are the food served at the table here. Harmony and healing are the planks in the walls and this home is roofed over with love. Eternal life is expressed here. Here we dance the dance of joy in God’s magnificent spiritual architecture. Here we sing the songs of exuberant praise to Love. I am at home in God’s home. This is where my family lives no matter where they may physically be. This is where my guests enter.–
This is a healing prayer.

At another visit the guest mentioned above felt very ill with a cold. He had a fever and other symptoms and intended to get medicine in the morning. I knew that this suggestion of inharmony was no part of the sense of home that he had entered. I pondered how pillars of our dwelling, Life, Truth, Love, Soul, Spirit, Mind and Principle (synonyms for God) were actively holding us all in loving care. The guest was healthy in the morning.

We had invited an acquaintance, who knew nothing about Christian Science, to visit because she had expressed an interest in spirituality. When she arrived she told us that she was losing her hearing, and it was getting worse. She was quite fearful. Her voice came out in such low whisper that we could barely understand her. She expressed the need to go to a doctor for her hearing the next day. I said that we would certainly take her to whatever doctor she found. Then, because she had previously had a spiritual focus, I explained that we were Christian Scientist and how we rely on God for spiritual healing. I gave her some examples of healing from my families’ experience. I finished by saying that we would certainly follow her wish to take her to the doctor of her choice if that was what she needed. Nothing more was said.

I had established my spiritual sense of home before she arrived, and since I was not asked to pray for her, I went back to the indestructible fact that God’s creation is good, completely good, and this is where our home and everyone in it resides. Perfection is a law of Principle, God. That is all I could see. That is all I could bear witness to. I continued to hold to this truth about home and all of God’s children living in it. In the morning, our guest did not ask to go to the doctor. In a few days her voice was at a normal tone and she could hear the TV at the same volume as the rest of us. She didn’t mention her hearing again after the first day but we all could see that she had been healed.

When I picked up another guest at the airport she didn’t let me give her a welcome hug, saying that she had a cold and that she didn’t want to make me sick. She is not a Christian Scientist either so I again simply knew that any sense of sickness or discomfort could not enter our home. Before she arrived I had prayed to understand that we were all God’s perfect children living in the kingdom of heaven, another way to say God’s home. I kept my prayers on the spiritual understanding of where we live. By morning, she too was fine. Later, I was able to discuss with this friend the concept I had of our home and I shared some of the other healings with her. She said, “Oh yes, I was feeling sick when I arrived and was well by the next morning.”

This prayer extends beyond the physical boundaries of our house. Harmonious activity is continual, evidence of God’s presence. Mary Baker Eddy states, “The understanding, even in a degree, of the divine All-power destroys fear, and plants the feet in the true path, — the path which leads to the house built without hands “eternal in the heavens.” (SH 454:7–9) This is OUR house because it is God’s house, the home of Her children, us. It is a healing home.

Sometimes it is amazing, “Oh wow, God was acting here and look how perfectly things went together.” Often, though, home is the awareness of peace, joy, and the presence of Love. God is here.
